Woozle Race Rules
This contest is a race between the internet’s two fastest hyperwoozles: Ana and Kata. Each woozle has a dedicated team of human experts to support it. That would be where you come in.
A woozle race is conducted as follows ~
1) This LiveJournal post
here is the starting line for the race.
2) When the start time for the race arrives, one judge will follow the route taken by each Woozle.
3) Judges will make a note of any bonuses collected.
4) At the end of the allotted race time the judges will make a note of how far each Woozle travelled.
5) The Woozle with the greatest total distance covered ~ after taking bonuses into account ~ shall be declared the winner.
Each team assists their Woozle as follows ~
1) Woozles live only on the World Wide Web. Each step of the route must be accessible using only a standard web browser.
2) Each step of the route must somehow enable the judges to reach the next step. This can be by means of a text description of what to do next. Or it could be a hyperlink. Or any other means is acceptable.
3) It is also legitimate for teams to attempt to disrupt the route left by their opponents at any point besides the start line.
4) Note that no stage of any route may violate the terms and conditions of use of any website which may be involved.
Scoring is as follows ~
1) Each stage of the route followed by a judge during the race normally counts for one virtual mile.
2) If the same site is visited a second or subsequent time the visits after the first normally count for zero miles.
3) A two mile bonus applies each time a step is made which uses an original method of reaching the next stage. Original here is taken to mean a method which is not a hyperlink and has no already been used along the route.
4) A bonus of between one and three miles applies if a step on the route is on a famous site other than a blogging site.
5) A bonus of between zero and five miles applies if a step on the route does not take the form of a post or comment on some site designed to permit public posts or comments. Zero is for those cases where a team member owns the website in question.
6) A bonus of between zero and five miles applies for any link considered by the judges to be particularly stylish or ingenious. Be warned ~ the judges are not easily impressed.
7) A bonus of between one and ten miles if there is evidence along the route that persons wholly unconnected with the woozle race have become interested in it as a consequence. Only positive reactions count as interest for purposes of this bonus ~ please do not annoy anyone. Explicitly asking people to become involved does not count.
8) A bonus pool of ten miles will be divided between the teams according to the extent to which the words “Woozle Race” and or images of the team’s Woozle have been left visible to all along the route.
About the judges ~
1) The Person in the Mask and the dog will be the two judges.
2) The judges are not obliged to follow instructions which are against the spirit of the race.
3) The judges will use standard web browsers with a reasonable range of features enabled. That said ~ teams may not ask for technical details of browser configuration and it is against the spirit of the race to attempt to exploit this.
4) The judges will ignore all attempts to give them hints and guidance outside the scope of the race. You cannot ~ for example ~ send passwords to the judges via electronic mail for use during the race.
5) Their decision is final.
Have fun!
